The Student Marketplace

Listings, sublets, textbooks, furniture and gigs — post yours free. Listings are moderated before they appear.

Housing leads, sublets, textbooks, furniture and gigs — organized for Binghamton University and SUNY Broome students. Listings here are category guides and posting standards; to post or ask about a live housing opening, use the contact form.

Marketplace

Housing & Sublets

Rooms, sublets (study abroad, co-op, December graduates), roommate searches and summer housing swaps. Post group size, per-bedroom budget, lease type and exact dates — vague posts get ignored.

Marketplace

Textbooks & Course Materials

Buy and sell textbooks, lab kits, iClickers, calculators and course readers by course code (e.g. 'CHEM 107'). Always check the edition — professors change them precisely to ruin resale value.

Marketplace

Furniture & Dorm Gear

Mini-fridges, futons, desks, lamps, mattresses (clean, always), and the May move-out gold rush when graduating seniors sell everything for almost nothing. May is the buyer's market of the year.

Marketplace

Electronics

Laptops, monitors, tablets, headphones and gaming gear. Meet in a public campus spot, test before paying, and never Venmo a stranger for a 'shipped' console.

Marketplace

Tickets & Events

Student-section tickets, concert and theatre tickets at the Forum and Anderson Center, and formal/event swaps. Face value keeps the community alive; scalping your classmates does not.

Marketplace

Rides & Moving Help

Airport runs (BGM, Syracuse, NYC), semester-break rideshares, and paid moving help in May and August — the two weeks every student with a truck becomes the most popular person in Broome County.

Marketplace

Jobs & Gigs

Tutoring, research assistance, babysitting for faculty families, restaurant and retail shifts near the Parkway, and paid study participation. Students: verify employers like any job anywhere.

Marketplace

Free Stuff

The curb-alert economy: furniture, boxes and kitchen gear left free at move-out. First come, first served — and check the weather before claiming a couch in the rain.

Marketplace safety rules

  • Meet in public, on campus, in daylight for first exchanges
  • Never pay a housing deposit for a unit you have not seen, to a person you cannot verify — the fake-landlord scam targets this market every fall
  • For sublets, get the landlord's written permission and the agreement in writing
  • Use traceable payment for deposits; cash for a couch, never for an unseen apartment
  • Report suspicious listings through the contact form
Want a housing listing featured? Owners and student groups can email full details — address area, bedrooms, per-bedroom price, lease type, heat included or not, photos — through the contact form. Listings without heat and pricing details are not published.
